IRONY Saffron outfit leader was once probed by National Investigation Agency in connection with terror cases
NEW DELHI: The government has decided to provide roundthe-clock personal security to senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh office-bearer Indresh Kumar, who was once probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a clutch of Hindu terror cases, sources said on Wednesday.
Kumar is the face of RSS’s minority outreach through outfits like Muslim Rashtriya Manch and is the latest in a string of people connected to the saffron camp who have been given central protection in recent months.
“Indresh Kumar has been given X-category security under which he will get one personal security officer (PSO) from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to guard him roundthe-clock,” said a source.
X is the lowest category of central protection.
The NIA probed Kumar’s role in several cases, including the twin Malegaon blasts in 2006 and 2008, the Samjhauta Express blast in 2007 and the Ajmer Sharif blasts in 2007, but didn’t find any evidence to formally charge him as an accused.
