Panchayat threatens family of boycott

A jaat panchayat (community court) has threatened to socially boycott a family, after a girl complained of molestation by a community leader’s son in Brahmani village of Rahuri tehsil in Ahmednagar district. The family has now appealed to Andhshraddha Nirmulan Samiti (ANS) for help.
The girl, a class 10 student from Ghodegaon in Rahuri, had objected to accused Akshay Shamrao Sawant’s advances and lodged a police complaint on August 7, 2014. The police had arrested Sawant, but he was granted bail and is currently free.
