United efforts needed to make Ram temple a reality: Swamy

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said rules barring women from entering temples must be changed in keeping with changing times. He also stressed the need to restructure academic syllabi to provide “true information“ about the country's history to youngsters.

Swamy was delivering a lecture on `India: Past, Present and Future', to mark the 175th year of the public library at Parshuram Saikhedkar Auditorium.

“Hinduism allows and welcomes positive changes in the rules mentioned in the books called `Smrutis'. We should make changes in the `Smrutis' and allow women to enter Sabarimala and Shani Shingnapur temples. We have introduced and accepted many changes in our traditions over a period of time, and this is the speciality of Hinduism,“ Swamy said. He also sought “united efforts“ from society to make a Ram temple at Ayodhya a reality . “I think the legal battle in the Supreme Court is in the final phase. The issue of temple construction may be resolved by the year-end,“ he said.

“More than 90% Muslims accept their ancestors were Hindus. It is also scientifically proven that all Indians have similar DNA. If the temple becomes a reality with united efforts, a grand mosque will be constructed on the other bank of the Sharayu river in Ayodhya,“ he said.
