Dalit sarpanch faces social boycott in village

The dalit sarpanch of Nortol village in Kheralu taluka of Mehsana district, has allegedly been facing a social boycott by villagers after he refused to withdraw cases against members of the Thakor community , against whom he had lodged FIRs for attacking him and threatening the lives of him and his family .

Chandu Makwana (58) and his family started receiving threats to their life after a fight took place over a dispute that began with kite-flying.

On January 14, some nine boys of the Thakor community fumed as the dalit sarpanch's son won a kite duel with them.

They tried to assault him, but his elder sister locked him inside the hou se to protect him.

The agitated Thakor community members then threw burning rags and stones at their house.
