Rape survivor's pregnancy terminated; condition stable

A team of doctors at Sola civil hospital on Tuesday terminated the 24-week-pregancny of an 18-year-old rape victim of Junagadh, who had swallowed acid after being raped. The surgery was performed after Gujarat high court's nod on the matter.

Condition of the victim, said medicos, is stable after abortion. Victim's mother said that her daughter is under immense trauma that she cannot speak to strangers. “Doctors have adviced to give her only milk for two days as she is unable to swallow solid food,“ mother of the rapesurvivor said.

Dr Shailesh Patel, in charge RMO of Sola Civil hospital, “As per the high court's order, tissue of the fetus has been sent to forensic experts for DNA analysis to ascertain identity of the accused.“
