Mob violence sparked off by Tuesday night's police crackdown on Patidar protesters in Ahmedabad escalated to such a level on Wednesday that the Anandiben Patel government was forced to call for the Army's help to maintain law and order. Police and leaders of the ruling BJP were the prime targets of the rioters.
Five columns of the Army carried out a flag march in violence-hit areas of Ahmedabad where curfew was imposed in nine areas.
